The Wairoa Maori Film Festival is presented by Te Roopu Whakaata Maori i te Wairoa ~ Wairoa Maori Film Festival Society Inc. In 2005, the festival organisation hosted the inaugural Wairoa Maori Film Festival. This Festivalwas held in June, as part of the Matariki celebrations over the Queen's Birthday weekend. For the event, hundreds of people converged on Wairoa from across the country and around the world, including a delegation sponsored by the National Geographic All Roads Film Project. In October 2006, we continued this kaupapa with the Second Wairoa Maori Film Festival. Guest of honour was Barry Barclay, with international guest attendee Charles Kassatly.
